The 17 kilometer long Dalsfjord is surrounded by steep mountains on three sides. The fjord, which is about 200 meters deep at the deepest part, is full of fish of all kinds.
In the very inner end of Dalsfjord, you'll find the small village of Steinsvik and Steinsvik Fjordhytter. You can access the village either by driving your car from Nordfjordeid or take the ferry from Volda to Folkestad.
Right next to Steinsvik are the neighbouring villages Åmelfot and Vassbakkane. Along both sides of the fjord, you'll find small villages like pearls on a string, until you come to either end. Each side has a grocery store and possibility to buy fuel.
You can also take the ferry to the village of Volda, where you'll find restaurants, many types of shops and public services. You'll also find this in Nordfjordeid, a 50 minutes drive from Steinsvik (no ferries).
Steinsvik is a quiet place with a handful of villagers living there all year round. In the summertime, many tourists come to relax and enjoy the place. Many people also have their roots here and come back to visit their childhood homes.
The farms in Steinsvika dates back to 1596. Still, the fields are being kept and most houses have lights in the windows. Please feel free to take a walk around the village and see what it has to offer.
